Athens Public Transport Holiday Schedule Changes: Christmas & New Year 2025/2026

Residents of Athens and visitors should be aware that public transportation schedules will change during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. The update was announced by the city’s public transport authority, OASA.

Holiday service changes

On December 25 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1 and January 6, 2026, buses and trolleybuses operated by OSY and private carriers will run on Sunday and public-holiday schedules. This means less frequent service compared with regular weekdays.

On January 2 and January 5, 2026, a special temporary timetable will be in effect for buses and trolleybuses. These adjusted schedules are designed to better accommodate increased or unusual passenger traffic in the days following the holidays.

Metro and tram updates

Changes will also affect the Athens Metro (Lines 1, 2, and 3) and the tram network. On the dates mentioned above, trains and trams may operate at different intervals than usual. Exact departure times and frequencies will be announced through official operator updates, and passengers are encouraged to check the latest timetables before traveling.

Travel advice

Transport authorities strongly recommend that passengers verify current schedules before leaving home, especially on public holidays, when services may differ from normal daily operations.
